Things You Should Know About Safa and Marwa

Safa and Marwa are one the main practice of Hajj, this practice is necessary for every Muslim to complete his/her Hajj. Normally this ritual is practiced by traveling back and forward between two tiny hills of Safa and Marwa for seven times.

These two tiny hills located in the Great Mosque of Mecca named Masjid Al-Haram. Safa and Marwa are located almost 100 meters and 350 meters from Kabah respectively. The Distance between Safa and Marwa is almost 450 meters (1,480 ft), so if we count it for seven trips that every Muslim do in Hajj, it almost 3.2 KM mean every Muslim walk forward and back between these tiny hills for almost 2.0 miles. Now both hills and the path between then are inside a long gallery that is part of the Masjid Al-Haram.

History of Safa and Marwa

In Islamic History, Abraham (Ibrahim) was directed by God to leave his wife Hagar (Hajra A.s) and their baby child, Ishmael (Isma’il), alone in the desert between Safa and Marwa. At the point when their arrangements were depleted, Hajra A.s went looking for help or water.
To make her search simpler and quicker, she went alone, leaving the baby on the ground. She initially climbed the closest hill, Safa, to see for any help. When she didn’t see anything, she at that point went to the other, Marwa, to see around for help. While Hajra A.s was on either hill, she had the option to see Ismael and realize he was protected.

But, when she was in the valley between the hills she was not able to see her child, therefore, he came to see Hazrat Ismael and then go tho hills one by one to see the help or water. She repeats this seven times. when she arrived to see Hazrat Ismail seventh time, Hajra (A.S) see the water flows out from the earth because of Hazrat Ismail crying and rubbing his feet on the ground.
And it flows until today and it will flow till judgmental day Qayamat. So Allah loves this work of Bibi Hajra (A.S) so much and makes it the part of Hajj and umrah.

Allah (ﷻ) makes mention of the Safa and Marwah mountains in the Quran in Surah Baqarah:

Verily Safa and Marwah are among the landmarks (distinctive signs) of (the Deen of) Allah.” [2:158]
